    Dear Hamwa,

I really liked watching the video.

Where do you get your leather from? Who buys your sandals?

I like that you buy spare tire for the soles of the shoes.

How much do you sell your sandals for in Kenyan dollars?

    Thank you.

    Llisa

Thanx Lisa! We buy our leather 4rm local retailers who a not dependent bcoz of dea high prices. We buy 4rm dem bcoz they sell in small quantities rather than 4rm da factory bcoz its expensive n we've no enough capital 2 buy bulk leather.Otherwise factory is the best channel even 2 give u quality n best result as u desire. Our immediate customers ar da locals but we strive 2 reach buyers who take dea goods 2 outside markets, who in sm cases buy bad or delay our capital.Tire sole woz a good idea @ first until we made a research n our customers could not buy tha idea.Ba its used 2 make local footwears 4 rough roads n also 2 specified customer desire.Instead of tire sole,we use ,"HARD SOLE" we get 4rm da local market. In da local market, our sandles go 4(Ksh 300 ie 3.5 US$).When we value time, manpower, skills, fixed costs etc we consider our local market hard on us,ba relatively its good.2 us we look foward 2 reduce our productn cost n increase quantity&quality; 2 make our profit margin bigger n better.Thanx n God BLSS U!

Of customers n also reach services of big meetings, seminars etc.Yes,we'll sell @ da local market, but greater than dis 2 international level(HOTEL).We pray 2 God 2 advance in reciepy n presentations.tanx!

Hamwa you are raising money for catering? Your video features the sandal business is it all male and the catering business for women? Can you ship/mail sandals to the US? I have some from my time in Kenya and friends always ask me for some. If you could ship to US please let me know. Thanks and keep up the good work. GOD Bless.

Our catering Business involves both men and women but we are advancing to recruit more young women.About the sandles business, its mostly done by men because of the hardwork on them.Pliz Myrtle, its very much possible to send you the sandles, but its good to get the clear details on quantity n probably the rough idea classification(men-how many,Ladies-how many). Thanks for your encouragement,GOD BLESS YOU AS YOU BLESS US!

Great to hear that you can send sandals to the US. To would like order 8 pairs in total,
6 ladies in size 39, (1) orange and blue, (1) pink and blue, (2) silver, (2) white with cowry shells,

2 in size 38 you could choose the design

I can send photos of some of the ones I have here. Could I send you money via paypal? I would also need to know the price with shipping.

Thanks and hopes that this helps in some small way. I really like the sandals and plan to give them away as gifts.

    Hi Hamwa,

Thank you for doing the work you are doing! It's great that you're trying to recruit more young women and that you're making a useful product that will last people for a long time.

I liked learning how sandals are made!

    Congratulations!

I will be coming to East Africa later this year, and I hope that I might be able to see your business with my own eyes.

I am traveling to talk to young women between the ages of 14 and 26 who are doing great things to help their communities. So maybe there is someone in Hamwa that I can talk to.

    Thanks again!

    Best,
    Tara

This is a quick update to Myrtle from Melanda (part of the Nairobi based Mobile Movement Team). Hamwa group and I are working on getting your order of 8 sandals to you. I think PayPal will work but will let you know soon via your direct email exactly how this will work. Thanks for the order, the group is very happy about it!

I am a returned Peace Corps volunteer from Kenya. Since my return to the USA in October 2007, I have been continuing my work with a self-help group in the Kibera slum outside of Nairobi. The group calls themselves "Kibera Bone Jewelry". They make jewelry to sell. Proceeds go to start a school and provide employment. Please note this website to see pictures of the jewelry and read more about the background.

Is there a way to have "Kibera Bone Jewelry" sell items on your website?

  • Myrtle Jones »

Melanda thanks for your post. A friend has a small boutique in harlem where everything is $10 or less if the numbers could work for her she could place a much larger order. I showed her the shoes I have from my last trip two years ago. I want this to be a win-win for everyone so if there is enough of a margin for everyone let's make it happen. I know how things can be on your end so I will patiently await your response. Also send me an email with the cost for the sandals I have already ordered so that I can prepay for them.
